YELLOW MAGIC ORCHESTRA

From Tokyo, Japan.  The Yellow Magic Orchestra is the first major Japanese modern rock act of any note.  Led by Haruomi Hosono with Yukihiro Takahashi (vocals/percussion) and the multi-award winning Ryuichi Sakamoto (keyboards).  In Japan they are the groundbreaking equivalent of The Sex Pistols.  Years before their time, YMO used sampling, video game sounds and synthesizers in creating innovative pop music.  They singlehandedly created the new genre of Technopop, defining techno and electronica before there were such names. The members all had thriving solo careers before forming this group, and after as well.  At their zenith, they were joined by drummer David Palmer who defected from ABC.   The band has released new material only sporadically since the mid-80's, usually under different names including NOT YMO, Sketch Show amd Human Audio Sponge.  The band performed and released a series of live concerts in 2008 once again performing as YMO.  1978-present.
