YEAH YEAH YEAHS

From New York City.  Led by Karen O (Karen Orzolek)(vocals) with Nick Zinner (guitar) and Brian Chase (drums). This NY trio is representative of the new direction in which alternative music is traveling in the new century.  While fitting in perfectly with other NYC contemporaries like Interpol, the band also combines both new and older elements of alternative rock that haven't been heard since the late 1980's and early 1990's.   O's amazing vocals have often been compared with Chrissie Hynde in the early days of The Pretenders.  This is also a band that seems destined to succeed despite itself.  They are known to get falling down drunk in performance, have a better time than the audience does, and not be too impressed with themselves despite massive critical attention.  Alternative music today needs less cover versions by so-so bands, and more imagination, the kind you can hear in the music of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.  Tension within the band after Karen O. moved to the west coast almost caused a split but the band recovered and continue to try new directions.  In 2009, Karen O. released her first solo disk, the soundtrack to the movie "Where The Wild Things Are".  2002-present.
