XTC
From Swindon, Wiltshire, England. Led by Andy Partridge (vocals/guitar) with Colin Moulding (bass) and Dave Gregory (guitar/keyboards). The band was originally known as The Helium Kids, got their start in the early days of punk and new wave and despite record company legal hassles, persist to this day. Former band members include Terry Chambers (drums) and Barry Andrews (keyboards) who joined The League Of Gentlemen and would later form Shriekback. Intelligent pop for the modern rock masses. Due to their sensibilities as well as their legal problems, they've released many singles under different names as well (The Three Wise Men, The Dukes Of Stratosphere, Mr. Partridge, etc.) and even contributed to their own tribute album under a different name. The band stopped performing in concert in the early 1980's due to Partridge's debilitating stage fright. Gregory has recently left the group. 1977-present.
