From Los Angeles. Seminal L.A. punk band led by John Doe (John Duchac)(vocals/bass) and Exene Cervenka (Christine Cervenkova)(vocals) with Billy Zoom (guitar) and D.J. Bonebrake (drums). After Zoom left, Dave Alvin of The Blasters became the full time guitarist before going solo himself. Tony Gilkyson then became the guitarist full time until the band went into hiatus. Their recent reunion /farewell tour saw the return of Billy Zoom! The band's first four albums were produced by ex-Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek. X also went acoustic country/folk for a few albums as The Knitters. 1993 saw a studio release by the band after a six year break and in recent years they've released an acoustic live album as well. Oddly, the band didn't come to national prominence until the release of the cover tunes "Wild Thing" and "Breathless". 1980-87/1993-present.
