MARI WILSON

From England. With her backing group The Wilsations, Mari made herself a name by performing old standard pop (Peggy Lee, Julie London, etc.) with a big bee-hive hair style. She beat the resurgence of lounge music by a good fifteen years!  In 1991, she made a comeback album that featured her new direction towards jazz.  Former Wilsation Julia Fordham also blossomed into her own pop career.  Another former Wilsation (Barb Jungr) convinced Mari to do a show with her and joined by jazz singer Claire Martin, recorded and toured the UK as Girl Talk.  Back to solo recording, Mari took a misstep into a retro disco sound but then returned strong in 2008 with a new album that capitalized on her original sound, a sound now used to great effect by other artists like Amy Winehouse and Duffy.  1981-84/1991/2005-present.
