THE WHITE STRIPES
From Detroit, Michigan, now based in Nashville, Tennessee. Led by Jack White (John Gillis)(guitar/vocal) and his "sister" Meg White (drums/vocals). The two are actually a divorced couple who stumbled into success at a time when rap-metal was at its high peak. An anomaly in today's music, their sound is raw and dated but fresh at the same time, harkening back to early Detroit garage rock traditions. In a surprising move and with the bands' permission, Redd Kross' Steve McDonald took the White Blood Cells tapes and added his own bass parts to it, making it free for download over the internet. The Whites however prefer to keep their sound a twosome for now, a real lo-fi experience. 1998-present.
