WEEZER

From Los Angeles.  Led by Rivers Cuomo (vocals/guitar) with Brian Bell (guitar), Scott Shriner (bass) and Patrick Wilson (drums).  One of the more creative bands of the mid 90's, and most internally conflicted as well.  A career highpoint came in the video for their song "Buddy Holly" which places the band within the setting of the 70's television sitcom "Happy Days".  After what appeared to be a break-up, Cuomo reformed the band to even greater success.  While Cuomo struggled with his muse, the band members all funneled their energies into side projects as well, most notably, former bassist Matt Sharp's band The Rentals.  When the band reconvened, Sharp was not part of the project, replaced by Mikey Welsh and then by Scott Shriner.  Cuomo and Sharp have since amicably settled their differences.  In 2004, the band again went on yet another hiatus as Cuomo enrolled at Harvard to finish his schooling.  Cuomo has also since revealed that he has been working on a mathmatical formula that  makes a song that people want to hear, resulting in a hit song.  If Cuomo's formula is working, recent hits show that expertise.  Listening to the lyrics of "Pork And Beans", Cuome sings that "Timbaland  knows the way to reach the top of the charts, maybe if I work with him I can perfect the art", referring to the top chart topping producer and his own song formulas.  1994-present.
