VIOLENT FEMMES
From Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Led by Gordon Gano (vocals/guitar) with Brian Ritchie (bass) and Guy Hoffman (drums). The band was discovered busking on a street corner by Pretenders guitarist James Honeyman-Scott. Sometimes called "folk/punk", the Violent Femmes are a true original American rock band that produced a sound and style unlike anyone before or since. The band's quirky guitar and drum sound has much to do with their original drummer Victor DeLorenzo who left the band in 1992. Hoffman was his replacement, joining on from The Bodeans. According to their website, Gordon Gano is the closest living relative to the late billionaire Howard Hughes! A long reputation as one of alternative rock's classic bands, infighting broke the band up several times with Gano and Richie creating new bands in 2009. As a final gift to their fans and a reciprocal tip of the hat to Gnarls Barkley who covered "Gone Daddy Gone", the Violent Femmes released a final single covering Gnarls' "Crazy". 1983-2008.
