THE VERVE

From Wigan, England. Led by Richard Ashcroft (vocals/guitar) with Nick McCabe (guitar), Simon Jones (bass), Simon Tong (keyboards) and Peter Salisbury (drums). A shoe-gazer band, after several years of only moderate success in the UK, Ashcroft called it quits and folded the band. After a few years rest, he resurrected it and found greater success. Their breakthrough single "Bittersweet Symphony" got the band involved in a lawsuit with the management company of the Rolling Stones, the song borrowing heavily of an orchestral version of "The Last Time". The result was a forfeiture of the song's royalties and a co-writing credit for Jagger and Richards. Ashcroft is married to Spiritualized keyboardist Kate Radley. The group split again in 1999, with Ashcroft moving on to a successful solo career. In 2007, the original members of the band announced a reformation with an album to follow soon! 1992-95/1997
