UB40

From Birmingham, England.  This reggae pop group derives its name from the British unemployment form serial number.   Led by Ali Campbell (vocals) with Robin Campbell (guitar), Brian Travers (saxophone), Earl Falconer (bass), James Brown (drums), Michael Virtue (keyboards) and Norman Hassan (percussion).  Fairly successful over the years, especially on their reggaefied versions of songs by The Temptations, Neil Diamond and others.  Member Earl Falconer left the group for several years due to a prison sentence he obtained when accidentally killing his brother Ray Falconer (the band's producer) in an automobile accident in 1987.  Campbell at one point released a solo album to little fanfare which saw him retreat back into the group for a number of years.  In 2008 however, Campbell announced he would go solo for good after touring the current UB40 album.  Duncan Campbell, Ali's brother, then took over vocals for the group.  1980-present.
