TOOTS AND THE MAYTALS

From Maypen Clarendon, Jamaica. Led by Frederick "Toots" Hibbert (vocals/guitar/keyboards) with Nathaniel "Jerry" Matthias and Raleigh Gordon. Along with Bob Marley, Toots recorded some of the very first songs of the reggae genre and went on to have many influential hits in Jamaica and a few abroad as well. He is also credited with being the first artist to use the word reggae in a song. His hits include "54-46 Was My Number" about his prison experience for marijuana possession, "Pressure Drop" which would later be covered by The Clash, "Monkey Man" a hit for The Specials and of course "Do The Reggay". 1962-present.
