THROWING MUSES
From Newport, Rhode Island. Led by Kristin Hersh (vocals/guitar) with Bernard Georges (bass) and David Narcizo (drums). The first American act to be signed to British label 4AD, the Muses, like their labelmates The Pixies had a harder edge and unique pop sensibility. When Hersh's half sister Tanya Donelly left the band to join The Breeders, the line-up became unstable and went through several new players. Hersh had suffered from some mental difficulties prompting a change in lifestyle and move across the country to Arizona. The distance involved as well as the release of a solo album convinced her to lay the band to rest in 1997. In 2003, a new album featuring all the original members was scheduled to be released. 1986-97.
