THROBBING GRISTLE
From Manchester, England. Led by Genesis P. Orridge (vocals/bass/violin) with Chris Carter (keyboards), Peter Christopherson (programming/samples) and Cosey Fanni Tutti (guitar). One of the first industrial bands ever, they started out at the same time as the original British punk scene! The band's name is a Yorkshire slang term for a male erection. Orridge became a well known producer and formed the group Psychic TV, while Carter and Tutti became the duo Chris & Cosey. Christopherson ended up forming Coil after doing time in Psychic TV. The group ended up releasing some 50 limited edition live cassettes, the best of which are available in their box sets. 1978-81.
