TEXAS
From Glasgow, Scotland. Led by Sharleen Spiteri (vocals/guitar) with Ally McErlaine (guitar), John McElhone (bass), Eddie Campbell (keyboards) and Steve Washington (drums). A guitar band that has perhaps been overlooked in the US, maybe because the name suggests country music? McElhone is a former member of Hipsway and Altered Images. Spiteri took her unassuming folk image from early in their career and changed it into something more glamorous and aggressive which may account for their recent reemergence as an in demand act in the UK. To describe the sound of the band, Spiteri has said she always wondered what it would sound like if you mixed Fleetwood Mac with Massive Attack and let Prince produce. Spiteri released her first solo album in 2008. 1989-present.
