TALKING HEADS
From New York City. Led by David Byrne (vocals/guitar) with Tina Weymouth (bass), Jerry Harrison (keyboards) and Chris Franz (drums). The name of the band is a television director's term for two "heads" talking in close up on camera. Originally called The Autistics, they began as a three piece. Former Modern Lover Jerry Harrison joined on after the first single. The band has the unique distinction of being the first music act marketed as being "new wave", a term invented by the record company to get them radio airplay since "punk" bands weren't being actively played on radio. In 1995, the band regrouped without Byrne as just The Heads. Byrne attempted to block their use of the name with legal action but failed. All four members attended a 1999 film festival celebrating the rerelease of their concert film "Stop Making Sense". It's doubtful that there will be a reunion though. Harrison works today as a noted producer, Byrne continues his many projects and Franz and Weymouth, still married, sometimes find time to release new Tom Tom Club albums. 1975-92.
