TYRANNOSAURAUS REX
From England. Led by Marc Bolan (Mark Feld)(vocals/keyboards) with Mickey Finn (percussion). Bolan's place in the world of rock was sealed years ago but as a force in glam he is sometimes overlooked. The band began as a psychedelic influenced act who often worked alongside the other pillar of 70's glam, (David Bowie), who also started out as something of a folkie. Bolan stormed the UK as a true rock phenomenon for several years. He more than likely would have been a force to deal with, had he survived, to be a part of new wave. Bolan died in 1977 from injuries sustained in a car crash. The driver of the car was his girlfriend Gloria Jones, the original singer of "Tainted Love". Bolan's songs would live on and become hits again though for Bauhaus ("Telegram Sam") and The Power Station ("Get It On (Bang A Gong)"). Finn died at age 56 in 2003 of liver and kidney failure after too many years of partying. 1965-77.
