STING
From Wallsend, England. Sting (Gordon Sumner) is best known as the former leader of The Police. A close listen to the music of The Police shows what a collaboration that the group actually was. Sting's background is in fusion jazz and as a solo artist has wandered back into his jazz influences to the point that other than his familiar high tenor, none of his solo work resembles that of his former band. His subsequent pairings with Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart, Eric Clapton, Toby Keith and Puff Daddy have only shown his contempt for his previous success and it would be a true wonder if any old Police fans even like Sting at all as a solo artist. To his credit, he has used his celebrity well with annual benefit concerts to save the South American rain forests. 1982-present.
