SQUIRREL NUT ZIPPERS
From Elfand, North Carolina. Led by Jim Mathus (vocals/guitar/trombone) and Katherine Whelan (vocals/banjo/ukelele) with Ken Mosher (guitar/saxophone), Chris Phillips (drums/percussion), Stuart Cole (bass), Je Widenhouse (trumpet/cornet) and Tom Maxwell vocals/guitar/ saxophone/clarinet). An engaging swing band, they were the first to have a hit heralding in the new swing revival, the Latin tinged "Hell". "Hell" sounded like a 90's version of Ricky Ricardo, straight out of "I Love Lucy". The band named themselves after a candy still manufactured in Massachusetts! 1994-present.
