SQUEEZE
From London. Led by Glenn Tilbrook (vocals/guitar) and Chris Difford (vocals/guitar) with John Bentley (bass), Jools Holland (keyboards) and Gilson Lavis (drums). Often dubbed the Lennon & McCartney of the new wave era, Difford & Tilbrook were originally signed to the RCA label in 1975 but the contract fell through. The band's early name was the risque "Cum"! Every song they perform is a small pop masterpiece which is not an easy thing to achieve. Original keyboardist Jools Holland left the band, returned and left again and has since become not only a solo artist but a popular television host in England. Many members have drifted in and out of the band since their formation, the most prominent being Paul Carrack (vocals/keyboards) who sang the lead on their hit "Tempted". The group broke up for two years between 1983 and 1985. During that time Difford & Tilbrook released an album together. Their final ten years were spotty but productive. In 1999, after 26 years as performing mates, they decided to try doing some real solo work but planned to reunite again in Squeeze at a later date. In 2004, the VH-1 program "Bands Reunited" attempted to make that reunion happen but it fell apart. 1977-83./1985-99.
