SPARKLEHORSE
From Richmond, Virginia. Mark Linkhous (vocals/guitar) was "Sparklehorse". Linkhous was the former leader of Dancing Hoods. The music of Sparklehorse was dark at times with industrial overtones but could also be soulful and rocking. The movie "Laurel Canyon" featured the music of Linkous as performed by one of the actors and featured prominently throughout the film. Linkhous accidentally overdosed while touring Europe and was horribly misdiagnosed, resulting in seven operations and a loss of muscle control in his lower extremities. He was comatose for 14 hours, the result of a mixture of alcohol, anti-depressants and valium. Ordered to bed for six months recovery, he ended up touring from a wheelchair. He fortunately recovered but suffered from severe depression. On Saturday March 6, 2010, Linkhous commited suicide with a gun shot wound to his heart, gone at age 47. While unknown to many casual music listeners, critics and musicians alike loved and respected his talent and he will be sorely missed. 1996-2006.
