SPANDAU BALLET
From London. Led by brothers Gary Kemp (guitar) and Martin Kemp (bass) with Tony Hadley (vocals), Steve Norman (keyboards/guitar) and John Keeble (drums). Part of the New Romantic movement, their music was synthpop with funk and pop influences. The band broke up after eight years, giving way to the burgeoning acting career that the Kemps had now been exploring. The band was always considered to be a new wave version of Roxy Music so it was no surprise to find Hadley covering Bryan Ferry's "Slave To Love" on his second solo cd. It was widely believed that animosity built between the Kemps and Hadley would prevent a reunion from ever happening but the band decided to give it another try for a reunion tour which resulted in a new album of remakes and two new songs in 2009. 1981-89/2009-present.
