SOUNDGARDEN
From Seattle, Washington. Led by Chris Cornell (vocals) with Kim Thayil (guitar), Ben Shepherd (bass) and Matt Cameron (drums). Hard rock that helped to forge the Seattle grunge movement. Named after a popular Seattle lakeside metal sculpture, there first releases featured the playing of original bass player Hiro Yamamoto who gave the band an interesting multi-cultural look. Formed in 1984, the band surprised everyone by disbanding in 1997 at the peak of their popularity. Cameron is now in Pearl Jam while Cornell went solo and eventually joined Audioslave. 1987-97.
