SNOW PATROL
From Belfast, Northern Ireland, UK. Led by Gary Lightbody (vocals/guitar) with Nathan Connolly (guitar), Paul Wilson (bass), Tom Simpson (keyboards) and Jonny Quinn (drums). Formed in 1994, the band made their way through several versions and released music under the band names Polar Bear, and The Shrug before settling into Snow Patrol in 1997. Since the formation, Lightbody is now the sole remaining original member. The band had also spent many years based in the Dundee area of Scotland before returning to Northern Ireland. Perceived by most as one of the post-Britpop indy bands, they now sit squarely as one of the more popular acts in England. In 2006, the band's hit "Chasing Cars" became a worldwide hit and introduced the band to American audiences who embraced them with platinum album sales. Follow ups however have been mostly ignored by radio in the States leaving them in "one hit wonder" status. Lightbody currently is touring with his side project; Tired Pony, which is made up of members of Snow Patrol and R.E.M.! 1994-present.
