ELLIOTT SMITH
From Portland, Oregon. Elliott Smith's story is the kind of tale that is turned into movies these days. He started his career with a three album stint in the band Heatmiser, honing his talents. A brilliant but somewhat troubled talent, he accidentally scored a hit ("Miss Misery"), performed it at the Academy Awards ceremony and succumbed to the pressure of following it up. A sincere and clever songwriter, Smith's work speaks for itself. Smith's career and personal life were dogged by addictions to alcohol and drugs, compounded by depression. An untimely death happened in October of 2003, at age 34. Smith's death by a self inflicted stab wound to the chest is questionable but that is what the public is expected to believe. 1994-2002.
