THE SLITS
From London. Led by Ari Up (Ariana Forster)(vocals) with Palmolive (Paloma Romero)(drums), Viv Albertine (guitar) and Tessa Pollit (bass). An important band in the UK punk explosion, their recording career does not reflect their importance on the scene. Albertine was an original member of an early version of The Clash. Many members would come and go in the band including Kate Kaos (guitar) who would later form The Mo-Dettes, Budgie (drums) who would later play with Siouxsie & The Banshees. Palmolive left to join another early all woman punk band, The Raincoats! Neneh Cherry also claims brief membership in this band as well. In 2006, Ari Up and Tessa Pollit reunited as The Slits and released new music followed by a full length album, their first in 24 years, in 2009! 1979-81/2006-present.
