SIMPLY RED
From Manchester, England. Led by Michael James "Mick" Hucknall (vocals) with a changing arrangement of side musicians. White soul inspired by rhythm and blues with a dance sensibility. Hucknall drew some modest attention on both sides of the Atlantic with his first release but only had sporadic hits in the US afterward. In Europe however, his success grew by leaps and bounds and with savvy investments to accompany his smooth vocals, he has grown to be a multi-millionaire as well. Hucknall appears to be quite the ladies man and in the past has been linked with both actress Catherine Zeta-Jones and fashion designer Stella McCartney! The band itself though has fallen from an original white soul hybrid to little more than a soul covers band. The spark that made their unique sound in the first two albums quickly faded into standard pop fare. 1985-present.
