SHAM 69
From Hersham, England. Led by Jimmy Pursey (vocals) with Matt Sargent (bass), Dave Parsons (guitar) and Ian Whitewood (drums). The most popular of the original British punk bands with seven top 50 singles in the UK charts. Pursey broke up the band because neo-Nazi skinheads had adopted them as their band of choice and the live shows became more and more depressing to Pursey who's personal views on life differed from the audience. Pursey waited until 1987 to reform the band and their sound in the 90's is a very contemporary blending of metal and rap, much like a cross between The Beastie Boys and Faith No More! 1977-80/1987/1992-present.
