SHONEN KNIFE
From Osaka, Japan. Led by Naoko Yamano (vocals/guitar/keyboards) with her sister Atsuko Yamano (bass/drums) and Michie Nakatani (bass). Inspired by The Ramones, these Japanese women punkers are too hip for American radio but not your cd player! Now after 20 years together they are one of Japan's longest lived punk groups. Nakatani retired in 2001 and Atsuko moved from drums to bass adding on Mana Nishiura on drums. Nishiura stayed until 2004. She died suddenly in a traffic accident in November of 2005 while touring with another band. The latest drummer for the band is Etsuko Nakanishi. 1982-present.
