From Brooklyn, New York. Led by Annie Golden (vocals) with Art LaMonica (guitar), Robert Racioppo (bass), John Piccolo (keyboards), Ron Ardito (guitar) and John Criscione (drums). One of the original bands from the New York City punk scene, The Shirts were more bar band with a little new wave thrown in. They enjoyed some European success before the band dissolved. Golden then pursued an acting career landing roles in the movie "Hair" and on sitcoms like "Cheers". She also has continued her career in music with the duo Golden-Carillo. LaMonica formed a band called Jing in the late 80's. In 1993 The Shirts reunited for a performance at their old stomping grounds, CBGB's! The group reformed in 2003 with new vocalists Caren Messing and Kathy McCloskey. Golden retired from the band and continues her acting career, most recently seen in an ad for Coinstar machines portraying an inept Tooth Fairy that falls down stairs from carrying too many coins. After a gap of 26 years, the band released a new album in 2006. Ron Ardito passed away from cancer at age 53 in 2008 but the band goes on with their latest release in 2010. 1978-81/2006-present.
