RYUICHI SAKAMATO
From Tokyo, Japan. His name is pronounced Ree-chee Sock-a-moh-toh (vocals/keyboards). Quite simply, he's a new wave genius and early pioneer of the techno scene. He first came to the world's attention as the leader of groundbreaking synthpop band Yellow Magic Orchestra. His solo albums have featured collaborations with new wave's best including Thomas Dolby, Robin Scott of M, Andy Partridge of XTC, Iggy Pop, David Sylvian, Adrian Belew, Laurie Anderson, Patti Smith and many more! He has scored numerous movie soundtracks and in the past few years has experimented with classical piano arrangements in modern contexts. He has just landed a number one single in Japan with an instrumental, the first time in Japanese chart history that an instrumental has made it to the top of the chart! His soundtrack to the movie "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence" (which he acted in with David Bowie) won a Grammy award, a Golden Globe award, and an Academy Award. 1978-present.
