LOU REED
From Freeport, New York. As a solo act Lou Reed (Louis Firbank)(vocals/guitar) has taken the primal force of his Velvet Underground days through many avenues including glam, white noise (early industrial???), power pop and more. One of rock's true giants, the critics have sometimes been harsh on Reed but no harsher than he has been on himself. One thing that has always persisted is the relationship between Reed and his guitar, his chord progressions more notable than his soloing, his sound is instantly recognizable. A symbol of New York City rock, he can often be seen walking the streets of Manhattan with his wife, performance artist Laurie Anderson. 1972-present.
