REDD KROSS
From Hawthorne, California. Led by brothers Jeff McDonald (vocals/guitar) and Steve McDonald (vocals/bass) with Eddie Kurdziel (guitar) and Brian Reitzell (drums). This group started in their early teens as The Tourists, then Red Cross, and finally Redd Kross. They made their first recordings when Steve was only 13 years old! Other band members through the years include Ron Reyes (Black Flag)(drums), Greg Hetson (Bad Religion/Circle Jerks)(guitar), and Dave Peterson (brother of The Bangles' Vicki Peterson)(drums). Starting as punkers in the early hardcore scene, their psychedelic brand of power pop has been long lived but never really embraced outside of a devoted fan base. In 1984 they appeared in the film "Desperate Teenage Lovedolls" which featured them performing the Brady Bunch kids' classic "Sunshine Day". This TV mania would continue with their classic cover "Blow You A Kiss In The Wind", a song originally performed by the character Serena (Samantha's twin sister) on the tv show "Bewitched". They also recorded under the name The Tater Totz while their name was held up in legal limbo for several years after their label folded. The Tater Totz line up included former Partridge Family star Danny Bonaducci as well as Michael Quercio of The Three O'Clock, Cherie Curry of The Runaways and Pat Smear of The Germs! Tater Totz specialized in covers of Beatles and Yoko Ono classics. Jeff is married to former Go-Go's guitarist Charlotte Caffey, while brother Steve is romantically involved with That Dog's Anna Waronker! The band broke up in late 1997 after almost 20 years together. In 1999, Eddie Kurziel was found dead from a drug overdose. Rumor has it that the band will rise again with Smear rejoining the fold but as of 2004 Smear has told our website that he is officially retired. The Redd Kross official website has named a title for their next album due in 2005. 1981-97/2005.
