RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS
From Los Angeles. Led by Anthony Kiedis (vocals) with Chad Smith (drums), Flea (bass) and John Frusciante (guitar). The first 80's band to actively involve funk in the evolution of modern rock. Their musical mentor was George Clinton and starting as teens gave them time to develop the band into the success that they are today. The band was founded by the late Hillel Slovak (guitar) who died of a heroin overdose in June of 1988. Since Slovak's passing, the band has had a revolving door of guitarists, the most notable being former Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro. Original drummer Jack Irons moved on to Pearl Jam. Kiedis made an appearance as a child actor in the Sylvester Stallone movie "FIST", playing Stallone's son! The Chili Peppers have always been known for their continuing struggles with drug abuse which helped Kiedis pen their biggest hit "Under The Bridge". The group also has a funny habit of performing in as little clothing as possible, sometimes only with a tube sock covering their genitals! In 2008, guitarist John Frusciante quit for the second time, leaving the band again without a permanent guitarist. 1984-present.
