QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE

From Seattle, Washington. Led by Josh Homme (vocals/guitar) and Nick Oliveri (bass) with Mark Lanegan (vocals), Joey Castillo (drums) and Troy Van Leeuwen (guitar). An interesting throwback to a time when classic rock was both progressive and bloated. Taking its cues from interesting bands like King Crimson, Focus and others, the Queens make a form of rock that these days seems long forgotten and consequently is fresh once again. Oliveri has paid his rock dues in both The Dwarves and Kyuss. Homme was also a member of Kyuss whose following is still strong, even years after their break up. He also played with Screaming Trees before their demise. A revolving number of musicians fill the other places in the line-up including members of Masters Of Reality, Screaming Trees and others. Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters took a break from his own band and recorded and toured with them in the drummer's seat, a position he hadn't been in since the end of Nirvana. The group began under the name Gamma Ray and released a series of singles before changing their name. Mark Lanagan of Screaming Trees was the most recent vocalist for the group but has since departed, Homme now handling the vocal duties as well. In February 2004, Homme took control of the band and kicked out his partner Oliveri. 1998-present
