THE PSYCHEDELIC FURS
From London. Led by Richard Butler (vocals) with brother Tim Butler (bass), John Ashton (guitar) and Vince Ely (drums). Their name was derived from the Velvet Underground song "Venus In Furs". One of the more popular new wave bands of the 80's. Their first hit "Sister Europe" was a moody hint of things to come that featured Gary Windo on an amazing sax solo. Their song "Pretty In Pink" inspired a movie of the same name starring Molly Ringwald. This prompted a new version of the song for the soundtrack and it became a hit all over again. The band went through several line-up changes in the 80's including an incarnation that featured former Waitresses sax blower Mars Williams. The band ended after a long productive run, the Butler brothers formed Love Spit Love but Tim left after only one album. Richard Butler reformed the Furs with a new line-up (basically a retooled Love Spit Love) and played on the reunion tour circuit for a few years. In 2006, Richard Butler released his first solo album. 1979-91.
