PRIMUS

From San Francisco, California.  Led by Les Claypool (vocals/bass) with Larry "Ler" Lalonde (guitar) and Tim Alexander (drums).  Punk, funk, and metal combined with risque lyrics.  Claypool formed the band in the 80's with other members before settling into recording with LaLonde and Alexander.  The group was originally called Primate.  Claypool has been the most prolific member, constantly touring and releasing new material while also leading the side bands The Holy Mackeral and Sausage.  Alexander quit the band and was replaced by Brian "Brain" Mantia for a few albums.  While the band never officially broke up, the evidence is pretty clear that they went away for a while.  Further, Mantia then left to join one of the many 90's line-ups of Guns'N'Roses.  In 2003, a new Primus album finally appeared and the original members toured again.  Making available every live performance since that time, the band joins Phish, Pearl Jam and other artists who offer complete live recordings for internet download.  1989-97/2003-present.
