MAXI PRIEST

From London. A reggae pop singer, he first hit big with a cover of Cat Stevens' "Wild World" in 1988. Maxi's real name is Max Elliot. In his 20 plus years in the music business, Maxi, along with UB40, is the only artist who reinterprets reggae for pop audiences. The results are sometimes mixed, but other times oddly successful, such as his unexpected duet with Shabba Ranks on the 1990 #1 hit "House Call". His longevity is a credit to his abilities as both singer and entertainer, often bringing a club audience to a sweaty fever in no time at all. 1983-present.
