JP, CHRISSIE & THE
FAIRGROUND BOYS
From London. Led by Chrissie Hynde (vocals) with James Honeyman-Scott (guitar), Pete Farndon (bass) and Martin Chambers (drums). Akron, Ohio born Chrissie experimented in music a little bit, inspired by her brother who was a member of Cleveland's well known Numbers Band. After performing in a band with future Devo leader Mark Mothersbaugh, she left for England where she worked as a rock critic for the New Music Express. Excited by what she saw forming in the London music scene, she joined the now legendary London S.S. Eventually she formed The Pretenders and struck gold, but after only two albums the band fell apart. First Pete Farndon was fired for his excessive drug use, followed by a fatal overdose for Honeyman-Scott a few weeks later, and then Farndon's death by overdose as well. Chrissie continued on with several line-ups, one with Blair Cunningham of Haircut 100. Hynde was briefly married to Simple Minds leader Jim Kerr and has children by both him and Ray Davies of The Kinks. She continues to play with a revolving number of musicians under The Pretenders name but according to Hynde, she continued the band out of respect to the original line-up. In 2010, Chrissie formed a new group with members of the band Big Linda as a side project called JP, Chrissie & The Fairground Boys, Chrissie and JP being an item (which they deny) led to this artistic pairing!. 1979-present.
