PORTISHEAD

From Bristol, England.  Led by Beth Gibbons (vocals) with Adrian Utley (guitar/bass), Clive Deamer (drums) and Geoff Barrow (keyboards).   The group consists of a collection of visual artists who made an independent film called "To Kill A Dead Man".  In creating the music for the movie, they stumbled onto a sound that drew more notice than the film did.  The resulting first album of music derives heavily from that film soundtrack, falling somewhere between trip-hop and ambient.  In 2002, Gibbons released a solo album which was actually a collaboration with Paul Webb of Talk Talk.  A sparse, folksy piece showing her float between influences as ancient as Mary Hopkin and as recent as Macy Gray.  In 2008, eleven years after their last release, Portishead released their third album.  1994-present.
