THE PLASMATICS 

From New York City.  The mastermind promoter of this band (Rod Swenson) fancied himself to be an impresario not unlike Malcolm McLaren.  So he took his porn star girlfriend Wendy O. Williams and made her the vocalist of a punk group that he hoped would rival the Sex Pistols.  With ultra tall (6'7"), blue mohawked, baby doll dressed guitarist Richie Stotts he found a start.  Adding to the visual aspect came blonde haired and new romantic in appearance, Wes Beech (guitar), leather clad Stu Deutsch (drums) and kamikaze dressed Chosei Funahara (bass).  Wendy wore leopard print jumpers with electrical tape over her nipples.  Their visual image was stunning, the music raw, loud and fast.  On stage, they blew up police cars and chain sawed guitars in half as Wendy covered herself in both dirt and shaving cream.  They fought several court battles on obscenity charges and won both times.  Funahara was replaced by the black man with the white mohawk, Jean Beauvoir! The band slowly changed from punk to heavy metal and splintered apart.  Wendy went on to a solo career, as did Beauvoir, while Stotts formed an aborted band (King Flux) with Marky Ramone.  Sadly, Williams killed herself on April 6, 1998.  1978-82.
