P.M. DAWN

From Jersey City, New Jersey. Led by Prince Be "Reasons" (Attrell Cordes) and brother J.C. "The Eternal" (Jarrett Cordes). Widely perceived to be a rap act, except by the rap community. This pop duo has expanded the vision of rap and embraced pop music and old new wave by making it an essential part of their music. Their first hit sampled Spandau Ballet's "True" to great effect and also made blatant sampling not only controversial but acceptable for future thieves/artists (take your pick). The brother's stepfather is an original member of Kool & The Gang and his musical influence may have been an influence on them as they were growing up! 2005 brought tragedy when Prince Be suffered a stroke which has left him half paralyzed. Jarrett retired at this point and Prince Be continues to tour under the PM Dawn name. 1989-present.
