OPAL
From Los Angeles. Ex-Rain Parade guitarist David Roback joined with ex-Dream Syndicate bassist Kendra Smith to form this ethereal duo. The band was first known as Clay Allison, then had a release as Smith, Roback & Mitchell. The music reflects the quiet psychedelia that permeated their previous works, with Smith's warm and sleepy vocals. Smith quit the band during the group's first national tour and moved on to a solo career. Roback regrouped and replaced Smith with Hope Sandoval, changing the group's name to Mazzy Star. 1984-89.
