OINGO BOINGO
From Los Angeles. Led by Danny Elfman (vocals/guitar) with Steve Bartek (guitar), John Avila (bass), Johnny "Vatos" Hernandez (drums), Sam "Sluggo" Phipps (horns), Leon Schneidermann (horns), Dale Turner (horns), George McMullen (horns), Warren Fitzgerald (guitar), Marc Mann (keyboards), Katurah Clarke (ryhthm) and Doug Lacy (accordian). Formed by Danny's older brother Richard Elfman, the group started generating their noisy funk toned new wave as The Mystic Knights Of The Oingo Boingo in 1972 and even released a novelty single. Their sometimes jazz inflected sounds remind one of what would've happened if Zappa had come in the 80's instead of the 60's. Before their break-up in 1995, they shortened their name one last time to just Boingo. Elfman has been a very popular music film and television music composer since the 80's as well and has only released one pop album as a solo act. 1976-95.
