OASIS

From Manchester, England.  Led by brothers William "Liam" Gallagher (vocals) and Noel Gallagher (guitar) with Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs (guitar), Paul McGuigan (bass) and Alan White (drums).  Notorious for comparing themselves to The Beatles and wishing death upon the members of rival group Blur, these Britpop heroes have a large worldwide audience, but never cracked America.  The band was originally formed by Arthurs and McGuigan.  The comparisons to the Beatles continued when Alan White was recruited into the band from Starclub after first drummer Tony McCarroll was unceremoniously dumped!  The Star Club was a German club that The Beatles frequently played, while on the verge of success they also dumped their first drummer, Pete Best.  Liam made headlines with Noel for their bad behavior, often beating on each other in public and on stage (shades of The Kinks).  In 1999, within a week's time, both Paul Arthurs and Paul McGuigan quit the group.  The Gallaghers insisted it would make no difference but the band lost some of their momentum during the late 1990's and early 2000's.  The new guitarist was Gem Archer, their new bassist, none other than Andy Bell, former leader of Ride.  In 2004, White formally quit the group as well and was replaced by yet another Beatles connection, Zak Starkey, son of Ringo Starr, who stayed until May of 2008.  Journeyman drummer Chris Sharrock who put in time with The La's and World Party joined on in 2008.  Liam has three children from three different women.  His first, a daughter was born to Liam and singer Lisa Moorish, his second, a son was born during his marriage to actress Patsy Kensit, herself a former wife of several rockers who would also divorce Liam after a few years.  Liam then married former girl group singer Nicole Appleton of the group All Saints who gave birth to another baby boy in September of 2004.  As of 2008, the band appear to be enjoying a return to form in their native England.  1994-present.
