THE NORMAL

From England.  A solo project by Mute Records chief Daniel Miller. Miller also was known by his other project The Silicon Teens.  This one song however became a cult classic and was also successfully covered by Grace Jones.  The song is based on the novel "Crash" that suggested a connection between pain and pleasure derived from automobile accidents.  It later became a movie starring James Spader in the 1990's.  Miller quit making music relatively early in his career, but his savvy Mute label provided a home for many of the first true stars of synthpop including Depeche Mode and Yaz.  "Warm Leatherette" was the first single ever released on the Mute label.  1978.
