From London.
Led by Graham "Suggs" McPherson (vocals) with Cathal "Chas Smash" Smyth
(vocals/trumpet), Lee "Kix" Thompson (saxophone), Chris "Chrissy Boy"
Foreman (guitar), Daniel "Woody" Woodgate (drums), Mark "Bedders"
Bedford (bass) and Mike "Monsieur Barso" Barson (keyboards).
The greatest of the second wave ska bands began as The Invaders, they
renamed themselves and their ska
derivative sound as "The Nutty Sound". One of the most popular
bands in England ever!
Originally signed to the classic Two Tone label they quickly moved to
Stiff and began an attack on the British charts that has seen few
equals.
By 1985 the band was through but reformed with most of the principle
members as The Madness for one album in 1988.
In 1992, they had a reunion concert called "Madstock" that was so
successful that it has turned into a semi-annual
event. The group then officially reformed and toured the west coast of
the USA
to give the largest audience of the third wave ska-punk scene a treat
and to
show them how it's really done. Suggs found a successful solo career as
both a
singer, television host and radio dj. Woodgate and Bedford became
members
of Voice Of The Beehive. Foreman and Thompson became The Nutty
Boys and
then changed their name to Crunch. The reunited Madness released
their
first new studio single in 15 years in July of 1999 which waqs followed
by internet releases and a few new full length efforts as well.
1979-85/1988/1992/1999-present.
