MOTT THE HOOPLE
From Herefordshire, England. Led by Ian Hunter (vocals/keyboards) with Pete Watts (bass), Mick Ralphs (guitar), Verden Allen (organ) and Dale "Buffin" Griffin (drums). A band known for its live act more than their recordings in its early days. They went from playing progressive blues to glam after a push from David Bowie in the right direction, secured them into glam history when they covered Bowie's "All The Young Dudes". The band named themselves after the book by author Willard Manus. Before deciding on "...Dudes", they actually turned down "Suffragette City"! The friendship with Bowie and his band The Spiders From Mars would come to fruition when Ralphs left the band to form Bad Company. Stepping in from the Spiders, new permanent guitarist Mick Ronson would cement the glam influence. The band would change their name to Mott after Hunter and Ronson left, but the magic was gone by that point. 1969-74.
