COUNTRY DICK MONTANA

From San Diego, California.  Country Dick Montana (Dan McLain) was the drummer and co-lead singer of San Diego's Beat Farmers.  A tall swaggering bullfrog voiced commando who drank hard and often had to read his lyrics from cheat sheets.  He started out in The Crawdaddys but truly came into his own in The Beat Farmers where he stretched his unique talents on classics like "Happy Boy". After a multiyear battle with throat cancer, Dick died while performing onstage from a heart attack on November 8, 1995 at age 40.  One album was released posthumously, but a rare piece of promo only vinyl is the one to seek out, featuring "The Definitive A Capella Led Zeppelin Medley" and a country cover of Culture Club's "Karma Chameleon"!  1987/1996.
