DAVE MATTHEWS BAND
From Charlottesville, Virginia. The Dave Matthews Band are: Dave Matthews (vocals/guitar), Stefan Lessard (bass), Leroi Moore (saxophone), Boyd Tinsley (violin) and Carter Beauford (drums). Matthews is originally from South Africa, his innovative band sound providing the most violin on rock radio since the days of The Charlie Daniels Band. Not wanting to be pigeonholed on the band's "southern" sensibilities, his sound progressed with each album, peaking around the time of the "Before These Crowded Streets". Since that time the DMB sound has allowed them to tour forever and make similar sounding new recordings every few years while still keeping their uniqueness, similar to touring stalwart bands like Phish, The Grateful Dead and Jimmy Buffet. Matthews has not been afraid to step away from the band for touring and recording as well. A prominent dedication "to Anne" is on the inlay card of the album "Under The Table And Dreaming" with no explanation. To solve the mystery, Anne was Matthews' sister who was brutally murdered by her husband, sometime around 1993 or 1994. In 2008, Leroi Moore passed away at age 46 due to complications from an ATV accident, his saxophone talents made up a large part of the DMB sound. 1993-present.
