LEVEL 42
From Isle Of Wight, England. Led by Mark King (vocals/bass) with Alan Murphy (guitar), Phil Gould (drums) and Mike Lindup (keyboards). White soul popsters that use a hint of jazz in their work. Murphy died of AIDS in 1989 but the band persisted without him. Very popular in Europe but only known as a one hit wonder in the U.S. for "Something About You". After disbanding in 1994, the band returned in 2002 for live performances. Their inclusion in our book comes from the exposure they received as an alternative pop act during M-TV's reign at the top of musical influence. The group with King, Lindup and new members toured again in 2006 and released their first new album in 12 years; "Retroglide". 1980-94/2006-present.
